Scripture

1 Chronicles 21

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

Observation

What was the process that led to David’s sin of taking a census in spite of God having previously forbidden it? What was the result? How did David respond?

Application

Do I often find myself taking matters into my own hands instead of trusting God? Do I take responsibility for the consequences and repent?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Heavenly Father, Like David did in today’s passage, I often take matters into my own hands, even when I know I shouldn’t. Help me to trust You and obey You. Help me to remember that the consequences of my sinful choices will often negatively impact others who were completely uninvolved. When I sin, may I immediately accept responsibly and repent, and move forward with You in faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Dustin and Amy Barton
  • Debbie Brueggemann
  • Michelle Caldwell
  • Kathi Carr
  • Loran “Bud” Clark

PART 2: CHRIST, REDEMPTION AND GRACE

Question #31: What do we believe by true faith?

Children’s Answer: We believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord, who was crucified, died, and was buried. The third day He rose again from the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the church, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Adult’s Answer: Everything taught to us in the gospel. The Apostles’ Creed expresses what we believe in these words: We believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
