Observation
How can something be sin to some people, but not to others? When does one person’s freedom become another’s stumbling block?
Application
Have I done something that wounded another believer’s conscience? Have I confessed that to the person and to God? Do I let my freedoms cause others to sin? Do I impinge on the freedom of others and treat them with judgment and condemnation?
Prayer
Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Lord God, Help me to use what knowledge I have to build others up rather than to tear them down. On debatable, non-essential issues, please give me discernment to know whether to exercise my freedom or to practice restraint for the benefit of someone else. May my freedom not cause someone else guilt or anxiety or lead them into sin. Likewise, may my convictions on everything but the essential tenets of the faith not cause me to be judgmental, and keep me from imposing my personal standards on another who has freedom in Christ. But if some freedom I have causes another Christian to sin, make me willing to give up that freedom–may the other person always be more important to me than my freedom. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
